At  some point in our lives, nearly all of us have been exposed to asbestos in the air we breathe and water we drink; from natural deposits in the earth, and from the deterioration of asbestos products around us. Asbestos is a toxic occurring mineral that was found in thousands of products-from 1940-1980.  When asbestos fibers get trapped in the lungs it causes scar tissue and lesions to build-up.  The scar tissue and lesions lead to difficult breathing, disease, and often, death.

Most of us, however, will not become ill as a result of exposure.  More commonly, those who at some point are diagnosed with asbestos disease, have worked in jobs where more substantial exposure occurred over longer periods of time.  Today cases of mesothelioma are being documented as a result of lesser exposure.  Family members of workers who came into contact with asbestos and brought it home on their clothing, skin or hair, or those who lived in close proximity to asbestos manufacturing facilities, have now been diagnosed with mesothelioma.

Symptoms of mesothelioma

  • Chronic cough
  • Dyspnea –shortness of breath
  • Chest pain –ranging from mild to stabbing
  • Expectorating blood
  • Stomach pain
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Weight loss
  • Fluid built up between the parietal pleura (the pleura covering the chest wall and diaphragm) and visceral pleura (the pleura covering the lungs).
**Some patients show no symptoms at all.

Mesothelioma , whether pleural or peritoneal , in most cases, is usually fatal .

Diagnosis
Diagnosis is usually accomplished with a chest x-ray, CT scan or ultrasound.

Available Mesothelioma Treatments

  • Removal of fluid accumulation from the chest
  • Surgery
  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiation
  • Gene therapy
  • Photodynamic therapy
  • Immunotherapy
Many distributors and manufacturers of asbestos- containing products knew about the dangers of asbestos as early as the 1930’s and 1940’s, yet hid this information from the public.  Today, workers and their families are paying the price and are entitled to compensation. If you believe you may be at risk, first seek medical attention then consult a personal injury attorney .  At Murphy Law Firm, we specialize in handling pleural and peritoneal mesothelioma, asbestosis , and lung cancer cases.  We will answer any questions you may have regarding this deadly disease.

Do You Have A Case Involving Asbestos Exposure?
